Students are expected to be at school in classes on time. Absences must be cleared for appropriate reasons with the attendance office. JFHS is an in-person school.
All students at JFHS have access to our academic support provider, Ms. Nichols. Her role is to provide students with support in their desire to succeed academically. It is up to you, as a student, to have a voice and ask for support when you need it. We have built-in student support every Wednesday and a mandatory seventh period if you have any grade lower than a D at the mid-quarter.
Students are required to do all assigned work, study all work and pass their tests. Grades are earned, not given.
All parents need to have an Aeries account. This allows you to support your student’s progress at JFHS. Review our Aeries webpage
for help setting up or renewing your account. If you need further assistance, please contact Mr. Bushnell.
Students may participate in athletics, prom, and other events at their home schools. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and have no suspensions. JFHS checks sports participation grades each quarter. To attend prom, students must not have any failing (“F”) grades.
John Finney is a voluntary placement. To maintain your place at JFHS, you must:
- Pass at least 5 classes each quarter
- No more than 8 absences per quarter
- No more than 5 referrals per quarter
- No more than 5 days of suspension
- No more than 10 tardies per quarter
Review the expectations for creating a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment at JFHS. By following school rules, respecting staff, and supporting VCUSD’s goals, you’ll stay on track toward graduation and contribute to a safe community for all.
Review the JFHS No Phones Policy to understand expectations for students during the school day. This guide explains the Yondr pouch system, student responsibilities, and how parents can reach their children if needed.
Review the closed campus policy at John Finney Education Complex. Students are required to remain on campus during the school day, and leaving without authorization will result in immediate parent/guardian notification and possible disciplinary action.
District and State testing is an important part of our overall success. Students who complete the testing remain eligible for school activities such as field trips, on campus activities, sports and prom.
Review the JFHS dress code guidelines carefully. Students must follow VCUSD standards, with additional restrictions on red and blue clothing, and items promoting drugs, hate, or violence.
JFHS is a drug-free campus. Any drugs, including nicotine and vape pens, are prohibited on campus. Students who need to take prescription medication at school must file a doctor’s note with the school office.
Review the early dismissal procedures carefully. Parents/guardians must follow these steps to ensure students leave campus safely and with proper accountability.
Review the information below to see how you can earn credits each quarter and take steps toward graduation. By following these expectations and using the support provided, you can stay on track for success.
It is important for every student to have up-to-date information in our database. In case of an emergency, we must have correct names, phone numbers, and contacts. If you move, change your email, or make any vital changes, please notify the office immediately.
All students will enter and exit campus through the main gate on the Amador Street side of campus.
Food deliveries from apps such as DoorDash are not allowed on any VCUSD campus. Deliveries will not be accepted. Parents may bring food directly to their student.
ParentSquare is the platform JFHS uses to share announcements and information. If we have a valid email address on file, you will receive messages by downloading the app to your phone. Please enable notifications for this app. Find ParentSquare setup support.
Students are required to park in the lot on the south side of campus. Street parking on Amador is prohibited by city code, and the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) may tow cars at the owner’s expense.
Students who are younger than 18 and wish to be employed outside of school hours must obtain a work permit. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and good attendance. Learn how to obtain a work permit.
